Onder de noemer Syndicate of Belgian painters brengt Peter Weidenbaum een aantal kunstenaars samen die een carrière in de kunst uitbouwen met een focus op de schilderkunst. Elk met hun eigen schriftuur, voelt men in hun werk een doorgedreven zoektocht, naar wat voor hen relevant is in de schilderkunst. Geen mode of namedropping maar een groep van schilders die zoals de filosoof Immanuel Kant het stelt bezig zijn met ‘het ding zoals het op zichzelf bestaat’. Elk bewandelen zij een parcours dat oplossingen vindt in de eigenheid van het werk en geen rekening houdt met tendensen. Het canvas staat centraal in hun oeuvre. Deze expo toont werk van Koen van den Broek, Stefan Peters, Steven Peters Caraballo, Karl Mechnig, Cindy wright, Stephan Balleux, Fred Michiels, Adelheid de Witte, Elise Berkvens, David Russon en Peter Weidenbaum. De tentoonstelling vindt plaats op verschillende locaties waaronder CC de Bogaard en de Gasthuiskapel in Borgloon. They each have a signature style of their own, but what one feels that they share is an unrelenting quest for what, to each of them, is at stake in this particular art form. With no regard for the trends and fashions of the day, this group of painters grapples with what the philosopher Immanuel Kant termed the “thing-in-itself” and its complex relation to the world of appearances. Each of these artists takes a different route to formulating answers in accordance with their practice, away from concerns about superficial tendencies. The canvas stands at the center of their oeuvre. The exhibition takes place at different locations, including Cultuurcentrum De Bogaard, Sint-Truiden, and Gasthuiskapel, Borgloon. Some of the participating artists will simultaneously show works on paper at Anouk Vilain Gallery in Diepenbeek. A publication with work by the artists will be available. On Tuesday 4 February 2020, 4.30 – 6 P.M., there will be a philosophical guided tour for children aged 7-14 and their parents. More information at www.debogaard.be.
